INTRODUCTION TO SPATIAL DESIGN

ASSIGNMENT 2. DESIGN ELEMENTS

PROGRESS

WE WERE GIVEN A 4 WEEKS' WINDOW OF COMPLETION SINCE ANNOUNCMENT OF THE PROJECT BRIEF.

WEEK 1

I selected the triangular shape that was extracted from the model in assignment 1. It then went through a series of transformation to explore the different forms and orientations.

Sketches for individual small models were created through manual and digital manner to make sure the design principle is applied effectively.

WEEK 2

I completed the sketches and got started with the model making for the small models.
The general materials used was modelling boards and bamboo sticks.

WEEK 3

I've completed the 8 small models and took snapshots of them with adequate backdrop and photography measurements.

I've then proceeded with producing the mock-up model for the final hybrid model, where I was required to merge and transform 3 design principles selected from above.

WEEK 4

I received final feedbacks from my tutor few days before submission, ensuring that I've fulfilled every task stated and further compiled all my sketches and snapshot of the final model together with the 8 mini models in a proper and well manner.

The hybrid model incorporated 3 design principles; Progressive Rhythm, Variety and Emphasis.

REVIEW

Experiencing this assignment was like going through a drill of design principles while appreciating how spatial inputs would create the volume of space with just a play of planes and lines. The overall dimension given for the final hybrid model was bigger than the first one, meaning more content and understandings could be showcased. Further development from assignment 1 to this assignment was also a challenge as we are constantly pushed to think out of the box without leaving out the basics.
