INTRODUCTION TO spatial design
This module was first kickstarted with input regarding spatial design and how architects and designers maneuvered them into beauty. It was a perfect reflection of the dimensions in the world we are living at, a transformation of 2D to 3D and sometimes the opposite way around. The space that we design through modelmaking is the idea or thoughts we pour in after tons of research and precedent studies. It was indeed a rewarding module as it gave us an all rounded insight of how would the degree years be like too. Find out more of the assignments that I've accomplished throughout this 15 weeks.
- Assignment 1 -
DESIGN ELEMENTS
In this first assignment, we were first given the lecture input on three main design elements that would be widely practiced throughout this whole module; line, planes and volume. We selected images of interior spaces in buildings and further extracted the visual points and connected them to form patterns of our favor and creativity. It was truly rewarding as we ended up creating a spatial model that was done with our very own hands sourced by our very own ideas. All 3 elements were taken into precise consideration as all should be in balanced proportion too.
- Assignment 2 -
DESIGN ELEMENTS
Assignment 2 was an continuation from assignment 1, as we were required to explore even deeper into the design world; covering even design principles on top of the elements we picked up previously. We were required to come up with 9 models in total to exhibit our understanding in all the principles as well as our skills in forging few of them together to create a hybrid piece. It was challenging yet rewarding as I myself was exposed to more design grammar and style of design/architecture.
- Final Assignment -
INSIDE-OUT HEAD-SPACE
In this final assignment, we were assigned with clients based on the movie "Inside out". It was indeed very interesting as we had a client to investigate on and later a client profile to create a space based on it. It was a grand wrap up for this module as it required us to take in all the knowledge we gained previously and explode them into bombastic wild ideas. All spaces created were refrained from being literal components in the real world, in fact to be a imaginative or figurative form of space. The atmosphere and the ambiance of the model was also taken in consideration through colors, texture and etc.
REVIEW
To summarize, I’d conclude that it was indeed a rewarding module. I've picked up knowledge and so much inspirations from the lectures input from my lecture and tutor, Mr. Paul Nickson Atia. He shared so much with us that it would be justifiable to pronounce that after this module, I accomplished a small bit of my design vault with all these architectural styles and design input. This module exposed me to the different values of space, as well as the various methods in presenting them through design elements and principles.
I improved my ICT skills by gathering ideas and doing precedent studies through Google and Pinterest. It was crucial to know what to find and where to find them effectively.
All research were carried out independently and no blind copying was done. It is trivial to be able to pinpoint the exact part of information in accordance to the respective subject.
I kept myself on the same path of the timeline outlined in the project brief and constantly kept my tutor updated with my progress.
